Brief introduction:
Performing Arts (Dance) at Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy gives you the opportunity to not only study and develop a range of dance styles and techniques but also perform and compete in numerous competitions and shows, work with professional dancers and choreographers and attend trips and workshops around the UK.
Course Requirements
A minimum of Grade 4 in English Language or Maths.
The course is studied within 5 hours of lesson time a week, with 3.5 hours of this being practical and 1.5 theory. Within the lessons we work on fitness, development of technique and performance in a number of dance styles and also creativity and choreography. All of the skills needed to go onto further education in dance or to prepare you for being a professional dancer/choreographer.
Assessment
Year 12
Unit 2: Developing skills and techniques for live performance Unit 3: Group Performance – (External exam practical – 10 minute group choreography which is recorded and sent to examiner) Can be retaken once in Year 13 Unit 12: Contemporary Dance Technique
Year 13
Unit 1: Investigating practitioners work (External written exam which is 3 hours. Taken in January, resit in May) Unit 4: Performing Arts in the Community Unit 14: Choreography for Live Performance
Urdang Academy in London, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, working in professional dance Youth Companies such as Zoo Nation London and Birmingham and Boy Blue Entertainment.
