Brief introduction to subject:
Sport at Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy gives you the opportunity to learn through workshops, visits to universities, support from excellent teaching as well as learning through practical lessons. You have 5 hrs a week with the opportunity to gain some work experience with some of our networks within this field.
Course Requirements
A minimum of Grade 4 in English Language or Maths. A minimum grade of 4 in English Language, Maths and Science and studied sport at Level 2.
Assessment
The sport industry contributes billions of pounds each year to the UK economy and is a continuously growing sector. The industry employs more than 400,000 people and offers many career openings in a range of areas, including management, fitness, leisure, recreation, outdoors, well-being, elite performance, coaching and teaching.
The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Diploma in Sport, which is 720 GLH, is intended to be an Applied General qualification for post-16 students wanting to continue their education through applied learning, and who aim to progress to higher education and ultimately to employment, probably in the sports sector. The qualification is equivalent in size to 2 A levels and has been designed as a two-year programme, which would usually be studied alongside a further level 3 qualification
Year 12
- Unit 1 Anatomy and Physiology (External Exam 1hr 30 min)
- Unit 2 Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (External Exam 2h 30 min)
- Unit 3 Professional Development in the Sports Industry
- Unit 22 Investigating Business in the Sports Industry and Active Leisure Industry (External Exam 3 hours)
Year 13
- Unit 4 Sports Leadership
- Unit 7 Practical Sport Performance– based Fitness Testing
- Unit 25 Rules, Regulations and Officiating in Sport
- Unit 23 Skill Acquisition
- Unit 17 Sports Injury Management
Students have had great success within this course and have gone onto higher education studying a range of courses at university such as, sport science, sport psychology, physical education, sports coaching, sport development, sport therapy, sport physiology, physiotherapy, leisure and sport management.
