Brief introduction to subject:
Performing Arts (Acting) at Our Lady and St Chad Catholic Academy gives you the opportunity to not only study and develop a range of acting styles and techniques but also perform in front of an audience. There will be opportunities to work with industry professionals and attend workshops and theatre visits.
Course Requirements
A minimum of Grade 4 in English Language or Maths.
Course content
The course is studied within 5 hours of lesson time a week, with 3.5 hours of this being practical and 1.5 theory. Within the lessons, we work on characterisation, development of skills and techniques, and performance in a number of acting styles. Students will devise their own work and develop their creativity. All of the skills needed to go onto further education in acting or prepare you to go into a career as an actor.
Assessment
Year 12
- Unit 2: Developing skills and techniques for live performance
- Unit 3: Group Performance – (External exam practical – 10-minute group performance which is recorded and sent to examiner) Can be retaken once in Year 13.
- Unit 19: Acting Styles
Year 13
Unit 1: Investigating practitioners work (External written exam which is 3 hours. Taken in January, resit in May)
Unit 4: Performing Arts in the Community
Unit 18: Interpreting Classic Text for Performance
Progression
On completion of this qualification you will be able to apply directly to Universities of your choice to enrol on courses within performing arts such as acting or musical theatre.
