Brief introduction to subject:
Sport and Exercise Science at Our Lady & St Chad Catholic Academy gives you the opportunity to learn through workshops, visits to universities, support from excellent teaching as well as learning through practical lessons. You have 5 hrs a week with the opportunity to gain some work experience with some of our networks within this field.
Course Requirements
A minimum of Grade 4 in English Language or Maths.
Assessment
The development and reliance of sport scientists to support sporting athletes has increased sports participation and enthusiasm at all levels, creating a demand in the sports science and sports therapy fields.
At level 3, BTEC Sport and Exercise Science gives you the knowledge and skills to be able to apply the principles of science to enhancing sports performance and develop the foundations for a career in sport. You will learn about the cutting edge sport science field, covering topic areas from human anatomy functions, physiology, psychology, fitness and training as well as how to conduct research in this field. You will gain experience of the science of coaching and performance, all delivered through a wide range of sporting contexts, both theoretically and practically. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to visit universities to support your learning on human performance in their sport science laboratories, taking part in lectures and collating data for various units of work.

- Unit 5 Applied Research Methods in Sport and Exercise Science
Year 13
- Unit 4 Field and Laboratory – based Fitness Testing
- Unit 6 Coaching for Performance and Fitness
- Unit 8 Specialised Fitness Training
- Unit 9 Research Project in Sport and Exercise Science
Students have had great success within this course and have gone onto higher education studying a range of courses at university such as, sport science, sport psychology, physical education, sports coaching, sport development, sport therapy, sport physiology, physiotherapy, leisure and sport management.
